Bulletin Listing Components and Formatting of Program Requirements

As part of the program proposal form, program requirements are joined into a single form field called Bulletin Listing. The Bulletin Listing form field syncs directly to the program's page in the University Bulletins. Once a proposal is approved, the content in the Bulletin Listing form field will publish to the University Bulletins at the time of the official effective semester.

For new program proposals, the proposer is initially asked to enter program requirement information into separate form fields. The Bulletin Listing field then appears after the proposer completes the proposal and starts workflow to begin the review process. As part of the first workflow step for every new program proposal, the Office of the University Registrar will take the program requirements information entered by the proposer and format them appropriately in the Bulletin Listing form field. From that point, any modifications to the prescribed, additional, and supporting course listings should be completed in the Bulletin Listing form field. Changes to the individual credit values entered in the Requirements and Degree Requirements section of the program proposal should be made in both the appropriate individual form fields and the Bulletin Listing form field.

For program edit proposals, the Bulletin Listing form field appears on the edit proposal form pre-populated with the last approved program requirements. Modifications to the prescribed, additional, and supporting course listings should be completed in the Bulletin Listing form field. Changes to the individual credit values entered in the Requirements and Degree Requirements section of the program proposal should be made in both the appropriate individual form fields and the Bulletin Listing form field.

Additional Formatting Guidelines

To maintain consistency, the Bulletin Listing is structured using the approved Bulletin formatting template. Before program requirements are published to the University Bulletins, the Office of the University Registrar will review the Bulletin Listing to ensure it adheres to this presentation template.

Below is a list of Bulletin template guidelines that users should follow while editing the Bulletin Listing form field on the proposal form using the How to Use the Course List Editor User Guide.

In each category (e.g., prescribed courses, additional courses, supporting courses) and sub-category (e.g., C or better courses, select statements, etc.) of the Course List, courses should be listed in alphanumeric order.

When using the Course List Editor tool, leave the Sum Hours checkbox unchecked to prevent an auto-sum of the credit totals being published. Because many undergraduate program curricula includes variable credit ranges and wide-ranging course selection statements, the auto sum tool is likely to publish an incorrect "Total Credits" sum for the program.

The prescribed, additional, and supporting courses that are common for the major are all included in the same course list table. For programs without options, these are simply referred to as "Requirements for the Major" in the Bulletin Listing. For programs with options, these are referred to as "Common Requirements for the Major (All Options)" in the Bulletin Listing.

While option-specific requirements are listed in separate course list tables, the "Common Requirements for the Major (All Options)" course list table includes a line indicating the minimum/maximum credit totals for the Requirements for the Option.

For programs with options, the requirements for each individual option are inputted into separate course lists that appear after the Common Requirements for the Major course list.

The individual entry for each option includes the following pieces of information:

  1. Option Name
  2. Minimum/Maximum Credits Required to Complete the Option
  3. List of Campuses that Offer the Option (for shared programs only)
  4. Option-specific Prescribed, Additional, and Supporting Courses requirements

In the Course List, identify prescribed, additional, and supporting courses by using the following Area Headers:

  • Prescribed Courses
  • Additional Courses
  • Supporting Courses and Related Areas

Courses for each category should then be listed under the appropriate Area Header.

Designate courses that require a grade of C or better by listing those courses under the following Area Subheaders:

  • Prescribed Courses: Require a Grade of C or better
  • Additional Courses: Require a Grade of C or better
  • Supporting Courses and Related Areas: Require a Grade of C or better

List courses that only require a grade of D or better first, directly under the appropriate Area Header. Then, list courses that require a grade of C or better under the C or better Area Subheader.

Select statements with two courses should always be listed before select statements with more than two courses. This is done so the two-course select statement does not appear to belong to any larger select statement.
